LOS ANGELES, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema's horror film "Weapons" took the top spot at the North American box office for the second weekend in a row with an estimated three-day cume of 25 million U.S. dollars, figures from the measurement firm Comscore showed on Sunday.
The R-rated title now has a North American cume of 89 million dollars for a global total of 148.8 million dollars.
Directed by Zach Cregger, the film tells the story of a small town where a group of children from the same class mysteriously vanish into the night at the same time.
Disney's comedy film "Freakier Friday" remained in second place on its second weekend of release. The film earned 14.5 million dollars this weekend for a North American total of 54.8 million dollars.
Rounding out the top three, Universal's action thriller film "Nobody 2" opened in the third place with a debut weekend of 9.25 million dollars. ■
