COLOMBO, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- More than 250 people have died from drowning in Sri Lanka so far this year, police said on Sunday.
Police spokesman F. U. Wootler told reporters that 257 people have lost their lives in drowning accidents so far in 2025. Among the victims were 37 women.
During the same period, the Police Life Saving Division rescued 69 Sri Lankans and 33 foreign tourists from drowning, according to police. ■
