TOKYO, May 23 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened lower Wednesday following declines on Wall Street overnight after U.S. President Donald Trump's latest remarks on the upcoming U.S.-Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) summit.

In the first few minutes of trading, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 49.47 points, or 0.22 percent, from Tuesday to 22,910.87.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, shed 1.69 points, or 0.09 percent, at 1,807.88.

Mining, marine transportation, and oil and coal product-oriented issues comprised those that declined the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
