As of 9:15 a.m. local time, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average shed 39.31 points, or 0.18 percent, from Tuesday to 22,316.77.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, edged up 0.98 points, or 0.06 percent, at 1,711.93.

Metal product, air transportation and house financial stock issues comprised notable decliners, while mining, marine transportation, and electric power and gas issues comprised those that gained the most.?
