JERUSALEM, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday urged the UN Security Council to denounce Hezbollah's cross-border "attack tunnels."

His remarks came ahead of a UN Security Council meeting over these tunnels, which Israel says were dug by the Iran-backed Shiite militant group in Lebanon.

"I call on all members of the Security Council to condemn Hezbollah's wanton acts of aggression," Netanyahu said at the Knesset (parliament), according to a statement released by his office.

The Security Council should also demand Lebanon "stop allowing its territory to be used as an act of aggression," he added.

"Their goal has been to penetrate our territory, to kidnap our people," Netanyahu noted.

The Israeli prime minister also accused the Lebanese government of "conspiring with Hezbollah."

"The Lebanese government, which should be the first to challenge and protest this, is doing nothing at best but colluding at worst," he said.

On Dec. 4, the Israeli army launched Northern Shield operation to "locate and thwart" these tunnels, saying four of such tunnels have so far been uncovered.

The UN Interim Forces in Lebanon has also confirmed the existence of the four tunnels, and described it as "a clear violation of UN Resolution 1701."

Israel and Lebanon's Hezbollah fought a month-long war in 2006 which ended in a cease-fire.
