PARIS, May 15 (Xinhua) -- French football clubs have voiced their opposition to the Champions League reform plan possibly adpoted by UEFA from 2024 onwards, French professional football league (LFP) said on Monday.

The LFP said that meeting in Paris on Monday, its General Assembly studied the reform project in terms of the UEFA's European competitions starting in 2024.

According to reports, the elite European club competition is scheduled to take its new format from the 2024-25 season, featuring four groups each consisting of eight teams, rather than the current eight groups of four.

Top six teams in each group will stay in the competition, regardless of their results in respective domestic leagues.

Some people fear the reform would undermine the domestic leagues.

"At the end of this meeting, the General Assembly of the LFP voted against the UEFA reform proposal by 32 votes against and 3 abstentions," the LFP said in a statement.

"French football is worried about the sporting and economic consequences of the current project on the national championships," it added.

The LFP also said that French football has unanimously decided to present an alternative proposal to the UEFA in the coming days.
